All About Tia
Ch Karousel's Jacint Tia.
Mischief should have been her
name. She was one of our all time favorites, but had she
been our first Kuvasz we might not have had another one!
Tia's intelligence surpassed
most humans and keeping a step ahead of her was a
challenge until her last breath at almost 12 years of
age.
We can probably tell more stores
about Tia than any other dog we have owned. Tia was a
story unto herself.
When she and her sister were 6 months-old, my mom
realized a storm was imminent and decided to bring the
girls into the house. (My mom was in her 70s at the
time). Before bringing them in she "Tia proofed"
everything; meaning she removed the remote control for
the TV, magazines, newspapers, TV Guide, area rugs, etc.
Once she was confident all of
Tia's mischief spots had been eliminated she called the
girls into the house.
Tia raced around the house
looking for something to get into. Her favorite targets
were gone. My mom stood in the living room feeling
pretty smug to have gotten the best of this puppy. Tia
looked at my mom, walked over to a wall, unplugged the
television, dropped the plug and look right into my
mom's eyes.
THAT was Tia for her entire 12
years!
My son had had some attempted break-ins at his house. He
had taken precautions and felt the family was safe, but
his children (small at the time) were still upset and
afraid to sleep at night. So he asked to borrow a dog
and wanted Tia. Tia? I couldn't talk him into borrowing
anyone else, and counseled him that he had to be smarter
than the dog.
First day they went to work they
came home to find Tia lieing outside on the front porch.
They had left her in the house. How did she get on the
front porch?
She opened a window!
We'll never know how much terror
she created in the neighborhood, but thank goodness she
didn't get hit by a car or lost! No, I guess Tia would
never get lost. She was too smart to get lost.
Tia stayed with my son for a long time. When his wife
was expecting twins she was bedfast for the last few
months and they stayed with her parents. My
daughter-in-law's father ran a construction business out
of his house. Workers would come and go all the time,
Tia had met all of them without incident.
One of the workers came into the
house on a Friday afternoon when Julie and her mom were
gone to a doctor's appointment. The worker walked into
the office, picked up an envelope and proceeded to
leave. NOT.
Tia told him he wasn't leaving.
Had he put down the envelope she probably would have let
him leave, but it was his paycheck. She backed him into
the bathroom where he remained well-guarded for three
hours until someone came home to rescue him!
There are more Tia stories, but I think you get the
idea.
Tia was never bred to produce
more little Tia's because her hips did not clear. I have
never been able to decided that if Tia not producing
more little Tia's was a good thing or a bad thing!
