Zeke, Comedian
and Guard
Zeke is owned by a doctor in St.
Louis, but my husband, Chuck, showed him to his
championship.
We had him with us one Specialty
weekend when a little boy walked up to my husband and
asked him if his dog knew how to sit. My husband
told him he didn't know.
The little boy looked at Zeke
and in a very firm voice said, "SIT." Zeke sat.
The little boy asked if he knew
how to down. Before Chuck could answer the boy said,
"DOWN!" Zeke laid down.
When the little boy leaned over
to praise him for his obedience, Zeke stole the baseball
cap off of his head. The moment was too priceless for
words.
Zeke was also the guard dog in some video footage shot
by the AKA (American Kuvasz Association). They wanted to
show that a friendly Kuvasz could also be a good guard
dog. The scene was set with Zeke and I taking a walk
through a park. An aggressive stranger jumped out of
some bushes at us, staggering, yelling, and waving a
stick.
In watching the footage, you can
see Zeke look to see where I am. Then he made sure to
position himself between me and the aggressive stranger.
He kept the leash taunt between us, but never once
pulled me.
When the stranger ran off Zeke
left with me in the other direction. It was a perfect display of
correct Kuvasz temperament:
Then we walked to another
section of the park where he was greeted by friendly
strangers and he was taped happily being petted by
various people who approached him.
It was an awesome sight!
