the 2006 Kuvasz National
Specialty as a veteran. At
age 11 years old, "Cat" won the Veteran
sweepstakes!
Cat Dancing danced her way
through the Specialty and wowed the crowd.
STILL sound, beautiful and going
strong, Cat sparkled at the toughest competition in the
country and proved that she still has "what it takes" to
shine in the show ring! Handled here by Chuck Ringering.

Cat the
Character
Everyone always wonders how Cat
got her name.
It is a Hungarian custom to name
the litters alphabetically. It was our 3rd litter, the
"C" litter. My granddaughter was only three at the time.
To her, all of the puppies were cats. When she called
her, "cat," this puppy would always run to her.
So we
ended up naming her "Cat" and it took some creativity to
come up with something that would work with that!
Cat was almost another
Tia
as far as mischief went! She has her fair share of stories
too.
Cat expected 100% of my attention at ringside. If she
didn't get it, she would think of ways to get it. I
could not carry on a conversation with anyone. To Cat's
way of thinking, it was not allowed!
Cat learned how to give leash
corrections to her people! Friends had difficulty
holding her at ringside for us. If they failed to give
her 100% of their attention, she wouldn't hesitate to
give them leash corrections too. She would back up
nearly to the end of her leash and then give the
offending human a jerk with the leash!
Leash corrections for us escalated to
more serious corrections for human violators. She
started jumping on strangers as they walked by... and
would make certain it wouldn't be anyone I knew!
I spent a great deal of time apologizing for Cat's
antics and then spending more time catering to her.
I vividly recall an incident at
ringside with Cat. There was an observing judge sitting
in a chair at ringside. A friend walked up and had my
attention for a few seconds too long. Cat jumped on the
judge sitting ringside and came away with his toupee
hooked onto her dew claws. Talk about embarassed!
Cat lived with her owner in
Chicago until last fall. At nine-and-a-half years old,
Cat was displaced from her home due to a divorce. She came back to Double Ring as
a fat couch potato who had forgotten how to run and she
looked like a very old dog.
By April, Cat not only
remembered how to run, but she had slimmed down to a
trim 100 lbs. and went with me to the Kuvasz Club's
National Specialty show in Wichita, KS as a veteran.
She and I had a blast, and I
really enjoy watching her at 10-plus-years on the video
from the Specialty.
